The Georgetown University men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Binghamton University on Saturday, October 21. The women won easily, 149-87, while the men cut it much closer, winning by only five points (121.5-116.5).
The Hoya women divers won both the one-meter and three-meter diving contests. Freshman Julianna Bonilla (West Covina, Calif.) took first place in both events, setting a school record in the three-meter dive with a score of 255.9. Freshmen Kathryn Harrison (Chatham, N.J.) and Tara Baird (Pelham, N.Y.) earned third-place finishes in the one-meter and three-meter dives, respectively.
The Georgetown women swept the 1,000 freestyle, the 200 butterfly and the 500 freestyle, taking first, second and third place. In the 1,000 free, sophomore Lauren Moynihan (South Hadley, Mass.) won with a time of 10:48.36, freshman Erin Kehoe (Haddon Heights, N.J.) finished second with a time of 10:59.78 and freshman Colleen Newman (Staten Island, N.Y.) placed third with a time of 11:03.35. Both Moynihan and Kehoe qualified for the ECAC Championships. In the 200 fly, sophomore Catherine Hayes (Charlotesville, Va.) won with a time of 2:16.50, junior Lauren Schmidt (Somerset, N.J.) earned runner-up honors with a time of 2:17.10 and freshman Claire Cole (Derwood, Md.) finished third with a time of 2:20.53. In the 500 free, junior Amanda Anderson (Denville, N.J.) won with a time of 5:23.85, Newman placed second with a time of 5:25.00 and Kehoe finished third with a time of 5:25.13.
The Hoyas took second and third place in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events on the men's side. Freshman Michael Kizer (Atlanta, Ga.) was the runner-up in the one-meter with a score of 196.8 and took third place in the three-meter dive (158.51). Sophomore Brett Daggett (Wauchula, Fla.) earned second in the three-meter with a score of 182.63 and finished third in the one-meter dive (176.88).
Junior Chris Lengle (Arlington, Va.) tripled at the meet, winning both the 50 and 100 freestyle, as well as anchoring the first-place 400 medley relay. His times were 22.07, 48.53 and 3:39.41, respectively. Freshman Shodai Enters (Tokyo, Japan) earned two first-place finishes, winning the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.77, and swimming the backstroke leg of the winning 400 medley relay. The Georgetown men's team clinched the meet when they swept the top three positions in the 200 breaststroke. Senior Steve Brown (Newtown, Pa.) won the event with a time of 2:16.68, senior Richard Dennis (Waterville, Maine) was the runner-up with a time of 2:17.82 and junior Matt O'Connor (Phoenix, Ariz.) earned third with a time of 2:25.81.
Georgetown's men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be in action again when they travel to Baltimore to take on Loyola College on Saturday, October 28, at 1 p.m.
