NEWTON, MASS. (Oct. 27) - With a third-place finish and a home-field first round berth in the BIG EAST tournament on the line, the Boston College men's soccer team defeated the visiting Georgetown Hoyas, 1-0, at the Newton Campus Soccer Fields. Sophomore Bobby Thompson scored the clinching goal in the 14th minute to give the Eagles their second-highest ever win total in a BIG EAST season. Boston College was selected ninth in the preseason BIG EAST Coaches' Poll.
Thompson's goal was the result of a fine passing play. Junior Chris Cleary dribbled the ball down the right sideline to the top of the goal box and put a through pass on senior Jorgen Lie's feet at the top of the box in the center of the field. He fed a charging Thompson down the baseline for the score. The goal was Thompson's second of the season.
Hamblin finished the game with eight saves and his seventh shutout of the season, while Georgetown keeper Brian O'Hagan made six saves in the loss.
