Women's Volleyball Falls 3-1 To BIG EAST For Pittsburgh

The Georgetown University women's volleyball team fell 3-1 (13-15, 9-15, 15-9, 5-15) to BIG EAST opponent Pittsburgh on Oct. 28 in McDonough Gym. The loss drops the Hoyas to 14-9 overall on the season and 4-3 in BIG EAST competition, while the Pirates improve to 19-8 overall and 5-2 in the BIG EAST. GU was once again playing without BIG EAST First Team selection and GU team captain Kiran Gill (Naperville, Ill./Naperville), who is still sidelined with an injury.

Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Warner (Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei) led the Hoyas with a match-high 19 kills. She also tied freshman Laura Hart (Sacramento, Calif./Rio Americano) with a team-high 12 digs and hit .286 (19 kills with only seven errors in 42 attempts) for the match. Hart also notched 11 digs on the day. Senior outside hitters Stacy Renick and Marcia Thiesen led Pitt with 18 kills apiece, with Renick adding a match-high 17 digs.

Middle blocker Anna Kleinsorge (So., Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis) ended the four-game match with another strong performance. Kleinsorge registered 12 kills, six digs and a block. Freshman setter Jennifer Ward (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) stepped up with a match-high 51 assists, while senior middle blocker Meg Troller (Sr., Elmhurst, Ill./York) contributed eight kills. Senior middle blocker Kaili Stevens (Lenexa, Kan./Shawnee Mission), back in the line-up again, had five kills, two digs and a block. She also hit .385 for the match (five kills with no errors in 13 attempts. Junior outside hitter Yulia Vtyurina (Moscow, Russia/Moscow #1415) added four kills and three digs, while freshman outside hitter Molly Healy (Los Angeles, Calif./Marymount) recorded nine digs and junior outside hitter Meg Mullen (Westlake Village, Calif./Westlake) eight digs.

Pittsburgh hit .317 for the match while holding Georgetown to .232. The Panthers also tallied eight more team blocks (11-8).
