The Georgetown University men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Loyola College on Saturday, October 28. The women won easily, 160.5-80.5. Fueled by a two-point loss to the Greyhounds last season, the Hoya men were determined to defeat Loyola, winning, 152-90.
The Hoya women divers won both the one-meter and three-meter diving contests. Freshman Julianna Bonilla (West Covina, Calif.) took first place in the three-meter dive (228.3) and earned runner-up honors in the one-meter (208.6). Freshman Kathryn Harrison (Chatham, N.J.) won the one-meter dive (216.6) and took second place in the three-meter event (207.6).
The Georgetown women swept the 1,000 freestyle, the 50 freestyle and the 200 butterfly, taking first, second and third place. In the 1,000 free, sophomore Lauren Moynihan (South Hadley, Mass.) won with a time of 10:43.23, freshman Erin Kehoe (Haddon Heights, N.J.) finished second with a time of 10:58.15 and freshman Colleen Newman (Staten Island, N.Y.) placed third with a time of 11:06.61. In the 50 freestyle, sophomore Erin Lenahan (Western Springs, Ill.) placed first with a time of 25.50, junior captain Caragh Moynihan (New Canaan, Conn.) earned runner-up honors with a time of 25.75 and sophomore Francesca DiSilvio (Hingham, Mass.) finished third with a time of 26.28. In the 200 fly, junior Lauren Schmidt (Somerset, N.J.) won with a time of 2:16.56, sophomore Catherine Hayes (Charlotesville, Va.) earned runner-up honors with a time of 2:20.75 and freshman Claire Cole (Derwood, Md.) finished third with a time of 2:21.18.
The Hoyas won five additional races on the day. Caragh Moynihan won the 100 freestyle (54.98), Hayes won the 200 freestyle (2:00.68) and junior captain Amanda Anderson (Denville, N.J.) won the 500 freestyle (5:21.46). Lauren Moynihan won her second race of the meet, finishing first in the 200 Individual Medley (2:15.84). DiSilvio rounded out the first-place finishers, winning the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:16.61.
The Hoyas took first and second place in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events on the men's side. Sophomore Brett Daggett (Wauchula, Fla.) won the three-meter with a score of 177 and was the runner-up in the one-meter dive (171.6). Freshman Michael Kizer (Atlanta, Ga.) won the one-meter dive with a score of 182.48 and took second place in the three-meter event (172.83).
The GU men raced to seven first-place finishes at the meet. Sophomore Bryan Evangelista (Northport, N.Y.) won the 200 freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:49.03. After taking a year off due to illness, freshman Dan Connelly (Gladwyne, Pa.) swam an outstanding race, winning the 50 freestyle (22.74). Sophomore Ross Savedge (Richmond, Va.) earned first-place in the 200 butterfly, finishing with a time of 2:05.07. Junior Chris Lengle (Arlington, Va.) won the 100 freestyle (49.12) and senior Richard Dennis (Waterville, Maine) won the 200 breaststroke (2:16.29). The Hoyas also won both of the relay events. Freshman Shodai Enters (Tokyo, Japan), sophomore Jim McLauglin (Plantsville, Conn.), junior Will Miller (Farmingdale, N.J.) and Evangelista combined to win the 400 medley relay (3:38.65) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:19.18).
Georgetown's men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be in action again when they participate in the Blue and Grey Meet on Nov. 11.
