WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 8) - The women's volleyball team fell to BIG EAST opponent Rutgers University by a score of 3-2 (12-15, 15-10, 15-8, 10-15, 11-15) on Oct. 8 in McDonough Gym. The loss drops the Hoyas to 11-7 overall and 2-2 in BIG EAST play, while the Scarlet Knights improve to 14-3 overall and 3-0 in Conference action.
Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Warner (Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei) and junior outside hitter Yulia Vtyurina (Moscow, Russia/Moscow #1415) led Georgetown in scoring, while senior outside hitter Kera Carter led Rutgers. Warner posted a team-high 22 kills and tied a team high in digs with 17. She also scored three blocks, two aces and two assists on the day. Vtyurina tied Warner with a team-high 17 digs to go with 20 kills, three blocks and a match-high three aces. Rutgers' Carter ended the contest with a match-high 26 kills and 20 digs in addition to six blocks, two aces and two assists.
Sophomore middle blocker Anna Kleinsorge (Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis) recorded a match-high 10 blocks in her second-consecutive start. She also chipped in 11 kills and four digs. Freshman setter Jennifer Ward (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) tallied a match-high 57 assists to go with 14 digs, six blocks and three kills. Senior middle blocker Meg Troller (Elmhurst, Ill./York) added nine kills, three digs and two blocks, while freshman middle blocker Laura Hart (Sacramento, Calif./Rio Americano) scored eight kills, 16 digs, five assists and a block in her second collegiate start. Junior outside hitter Meg Mullen (Westlake Village, Calif./Westlake) registered 11 digs, and freshman outside hitter Molly Healy (Los Angeles, Calif./Marymount) came off the bench to supply nine digs.
The Hoyas' next match is Oct. 11, when they take on the George Washington Colonials at 8:00 p.m., in GW's Smith Center.
