Georgetown Sweeps Villanova in Women's Volleyball

WASHINGTON D.C. (Nov. 13, 2000) -- The Georgetown University women's volleyball team ended the 2000 season on a high note by defeating the Wildcats of Villanova University 3-0 (15-5, 15-4, 15-5) on Senior Day in women's volleyball action on Saturday, November 11, at McDonough Gym. The Hoyas improved to 16-13 overall and 6-5 in BIG EAST play, while Villanova dropped to 9-20 overall and 2-9 in conference competition.

Senior outside hitter Kiran Gill (Naperville, Ill./Naperville) was back to her old form, leading GU with a match-high 13 kills and tying a match-high in digs with 11. She also had an ace and a block and hit a sizzling match-high .813 (13 kills with no errors in 16 attempts). Sophomore outside hitter Katie Davis and senior middle blocker Tina Zitterich led the Wildcats with a team-high five kills apiece, with Davis adding four digs and a block.

Freshman setter Jennifer Ward (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) tallied a match-high 35 assists to go with three digs and a kill. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Warner (Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei) posted eight kills in addition to nine digs, two aces, two assists and a block, while sophomore middle blocker Anna Kleinsorge (Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis) contributed seven kills, two digs and two solo blocks. Kleinsorge also hit .700 for the three-game match (seven kills with no errors in 10 attempts). Senior middle blocker Meg Troller (Elmhurst, Ill./York) ended the three-game match with six kills, two blocks and two assist, and junior outside hitter Meg Mullen (Westlake Village, Calif./Westlake) had a match-high three aces and 11 digs. Junior outside hitter Yulia Vtyurina (Moscow, Russia/Moscow #1415) recorded four kills and a dig in one game, while senior middle blocker Kaili Stevens' (Lenexa, Kan./Shawnee Mission) numbers included seven digs, two aces and two kills.

Georgetown hit a solid .302 for the match, while holding Villanova to only. .043. The Wildcats held a 5-4 edge in team blocks.
