Hoyas Defeat American, 86-48

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 21) - Katie Smrcka-Duffy moved into fifth place on the Hoyas all-time scoring list as Georgetown defeated American University, 86-48, on Thursday (Dec. 21) at McDonough Arena.

Smrcka-Duffy, who now has 1,314 career points in her three years at GU, scored 16 of her game-high 22 points in the first half, as the Hoyas record improved to 7-3 on the season.

Freshman Rebekkah Brunson scored a career-high 16 points in the game and had a game-high nine rebounds. Senior Dani Ilic came off the bench to record a season-high 13 points. She also had six rebounds and four assists in the game. The Hoyas forced 31 American turnovers, including 17 in the first half. After a slow start, Georgetown caught fire late in the first half and closed the first frame with a 10-2 run which gave them a 42-23 lead at the break.

Sophomore Suzy Bendegue added eight points and four blocks in just nine minutes of play. Zsuzsanna Horvath also had eight points, while Santia Jackson had six rebounds coming off the bench for the Hoyas.

Kaitlin Schuyler led American University (2-9) with 12 points.

The Hoyas are off until Saturday, December 30, when they host Hofstra in their final game of the calendar year.
