WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 24) - Georgetown's women's tennis team fell to James Madison 7-2 on March 24 at the McDonough Tennis Courts. The match was the first home contest for GU this season, and begins a string of 13 consecutive home dual matches. With the loss, Georgetown moves to 4-8 overall and remains 2-2 in the BIG EAST.

The match began with the doubles competitions and the Dukes won all three contests. Lucky Ravindra (Sr., Lake City, Fla./Texas Tech) and Caroline Marshall (So., Pittsford, N.Y./Harley) fell to Sheri Poppo and Lauren Dalton 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. The tandem of Sarada Ravindra (Sr., Lake City, Fla./Texas Tech) and Melissa Mendes (Summit, N.J./Oak Knoll) lost 8-4 to Liz Simon and Christy Michaux at No. 2. Also, Sarah Granson and Shell Grover downed Hadley Muckerman (Fr., St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) and Kim Wattrick (Fr., Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./University Liggett) at No. 3 by a 8-2 score.

GU took two of the six singles competitions. Sarah White (Fr., Westwood, Mass./Milton) defeated Granson, 6-1, 6-4 and No. 6 singles, and L. Mendes stretched her match to three sets after losing the first and claimed 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 5. L. Ravindra fell to Poppo 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. S. Ravindra was tested in a solid contest at No. 2, but couldn't claim the win losing 7-6(4), 6-4 to Simon. At No. 3 singles, Dalton handed Marshall a 6-4, 6-1 loss, and at No. 4, M. Mendes fell to Grover, 6-3, 6-4.

The women's tennis team will entertain Hampton on March 25 at 11:00 a.m. on the McDonough Tennis Courts. The match is part of a doubleheader with the men's teams from both schools.
