The 10th ranked Georgetown University Women's Sailing Team upset 5th ranked Hobart/William Smith to finish third at the MAISA Women's Championship this past weekend. The third place finish quailfied the women for the ICYRA Women's National Championship for the 7th consecutive year. The nationals will be held at St. Mary's College from May 28-30. The women finished the event with 127 points behind only St. Mary's College (111) and Old Dominion (125).
A 3rd place finish in the "A" division was captured by captain, Mimi Elliott (Fr., Coeur d' Alene, Idaho/The Hotchkiss School) and sailors Baye Emery (Jr., Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) and Shelly Wentworth (Fr., Centerville, Mass./Barnstable). The "B" division team of Liz Sampson (Fr., Larchmont, N.Y./Mamroneck) and Leah Williams (So., South Dartmouth, Mass./Tabor Academy) won three of their last four races and solidified a second place finish and also a trip to nationals for the team.
