WASHINGTON, D.C.-- The Georgetown University Sailing Team competed in the Navy Fall Intersectional regatta over the weekend of October 16-17. The regatta had twenty teams competing, with Georgetown placing sixth overall.
This years Navy Fall regatta was sailed in strong gusty winds for most of the weekend. The Hoyas started off strong and held a slim lead midway through racingon Saturday, before the winds picked up and the Hoyas were overtaken by eventual champion Kings Point. Junior Andrew Campbell (San Diego, Caliif./ The Bishops School) sailed very well in what was probably the most difficult division at the regatta. He won 10 out of 20 races and went on some great streaks winning a bunch of races in a row. In the B div. Freshman Chris Behm (Hampton, Va./ Hampton Roads Academy) got the start skippering in 420's. When B switched to FJ's junior Ed duMoulin (Larchmont, N.Y./ Mamaroneck) skippered and finished in the top 10 except for one race. This was a successful weekend for the Hoyas, as they beat a number of good teams including a few that were ranked above them.
This weekend the Hoyas will be competing in five regattas: ICSA Singlehanded Nationals held at Wayzata, MN, the MAISA Sloop Champs held at Navy, MAISA Freshman Champs held at Cornell, Stu Nelson Women's Regatta held at Connecticut College, and the KP Dinghy Open held at Kings Point
