Women's Volleyball Falls 3-1 To Maryland

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 12) - The Georgetown University women's volleyball team fell 3-1 (10-15, 15-2, 12-15, 12-15) to the University of Maryland Sept. 12 in McDonough Gym. The loss drops the Hoyas to 4-4 on the season, while the Terrapins improve to 5-3.

Senior outside hitter Kiran Gill (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) led the Hoya attack with a match-high 28 kills and a team-high 17 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Carey Brennan led the Terrapins with a match-high 19 digs and a team-high 21 kills. Gill also hit .444 for the match (28 kills with only four errors in 54 attempts). Maryland's sophomore setter Lindsay Davey turned in a match-high 59 assists, and sophomore outside hitter Amanda Ayres notched 18 kills and 10 digs.

Junior outside hitter Yulia Vtyurina (Moscow, Russia/Moscow #1415) and senior middle blocker Meg Troller (Elmhurst, Ill./York) contributed 15 and 10 kills, respectively, to the GU cause. Vtyurina also chipped in nine digs and two blocks, while Troller added three blocks. Sophomore Lauren Warner (Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei) posted nine kills, 14 digs, six assists, two blocks and two service aces on the night, and freshman Jennifer Ward (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) had a team-high 55 assists to go with 11 digs, three kills and three blocks.

Georgetown hit .290 for the match, while Maryland tallied a .207 hitting percentage.
