Hoyas Upend Colonials In Finals Of The D.C. Challenge

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 4) - Georgetown University's Kenny Owens (Washington, D.C./Wilson) scored two goals, including the game winner on a penalty kick in overtime as the Hoyas defeated George Washington, 2-1. Owens converted the penalty kick in the game's 112th minute after he was taken down in the box by a GW defender.

The Hoyas (2-0) held the Colonials (1-1) without a shot in the second half, but couldn't get on the board until Owens scored his first goal of the game with 7:29 to play. GW got on the board in the first half when Fridrik Omarsson (Garbaber, Iceland) scored from 30 yards away on a shot that deflected off GU goalkeeper Tim Hogan's (Richmond, Va./Freeman) hands.

Junior Nick Parypinski (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) played well in a losing cause for the Colonials. The GW goalkeeper made 13 saves, including eight in the second half. Hogan, in his first collegiate game, made six saves for Georgetown. GU junior back Michael Gross (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) was named the D.C. Challenge Most Valuable Player.

Georgetown will host Rutgers in their first BIG EAST game of the season on Saturday at 2 p.m
