Georgetown improved its record to 7-2 with an impressive 136-107 victory over Providence on Saturday, January 27 in Providence, Rhode Island.
Lauren Moynihan (So., South Hadley, Mass.) was a double winner as she took first place in the 800 freestyle (9:26.63) and in the 400 freestyle (4:38.42). Other winners include Catherine Hayes (So., Charlottesville, Va.) in the 200 fly (2:29.59), Francesca DiSilvio (So., Hingham, Mass.) in the 200 back (2:29.13) and Genna McKeel (So., Tampa, Fla.) in the 200 breast (2:49.78). McKeel also garnered second place honors in the 200 IM (2:37.80), just ahead of fellow Hoya Emma Cole (Fr., Derwood, Md.) who had a time of 2:40.83.
Saturday's meet also produced several other notable swims. Erin Kehoe (Fr., Haddon Hts., N.J.), placed second in the 800 free (9:34.55), Catherine Hayes finished third in the 200 free (2:16), Caragh Moynihan (Jr., New Canaan, Conn.) and Erin Lenahan (So., Western Springs, Ill.) nabbed second and third in the 50 free with times of 28.59 and 28.60, respectively. Caragh Moynihan and Liz D'Auria (So., Newton, Mass.) finished second and third in the 100 free (1:01.67 and 1:02.73, respectively) and Liz Maxwell (So., Pittsford, N.Y.) swam the 200 back in 2:33.38 to earn third place.
The Hoyas were also very successful in relay action on Saturday. A team comprised of DiSilvio, McKeel, Caragh Moynihan, and D'Auria placed second in the 400 medley relay followed by the team of Kristie Hunt (So., Glenview, Ill.), Christine Costello (Fr., Lynbrook, N.Y.), Maxwell, and Cole who had a time of 4:53.23. The 400 free relay produced similar results as the team of D'Auria, Lenahan, Costello, and Hayes placed second (4:11.08) and a team comprised of Colleen Newman (Fr., Staten Island, N.Y.), Amanda Anderson (Jr., Denville, N.J.), Lauren Moynihan, and Maxwell placed third (4:19.60).
Not to be overlooked at Saturday's meet were the Georgetown divers. Julianna Bonilla (Fr., West Covina, Calif.) was victorious in both 1 meter diving events with scores of 168.07 and 190.95 while her teammate Kathryn Harrison (Fr., Chatham, N.J.) finished second in the events with scores of 159.60 and 189.90.
The Hoyas next face Drexel University on Saturday, February 3 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
