Washington, DC - The Georgetown University women?s volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (30-20, 30-18, 30-17) victory over BIG EAST opponent Providence College on Friday, October 12, in McDonough Arena. The win improved the Hoyas? record to 9-6 overall and 6-1 in BIG EAST play. Providence falls to 4-14 overall and 0-7 in league competition.
Senior outside hitter Yulia Vtyurina (Moscow, Russia/Moscow #1415) continues her stellar play. Vtyurina posted a double-double with a match-high 12 kills and 10 digs in addition to four blocks and a .500 hitting percentage (12 kills with just two errors in 20 attempts). Sarah Katinger led the Friars with 12 kills and nine digs.
Freshman middle blocker Sara Albert (Davis, Calif./Davis) once again turned in an outstanding performance with a match high seven blocks, including two solos, to go with seven kills and three digs. She also hit .636 for the match (seven kills with no errors in 11 attempts). Junior Lauren Warner (Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei) had eight kills, six digs, two blocks and two aces in the win, while sophomore setter Jen Ward (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) finished with a match-high 30 assists as well as three blocks.
Junior middle blocker Anna Kleinsorge (San Francisco, Calif./St. Francis) came up with a solid showing on both the offensive and defensive end. She added nine kills, four digs, four blocks and three aces over three games and hit a .467 for the match (nine kills, two errors, 15 attempts). Freshman Lara Bursch (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson) stepped up with five kills, eight digs and the match?s best hitting percentage of .714 (five kills with no errors in seven attempts). Freshman outside hitter Julie Grauert (Lake Oswego, Ore./Jesuit) added six kills and four digs, while junior defensive specialist Anna Sones? (Pasadena, Calif./Polytechnic School) stats included six digs, three aces and two assists. Freshman reserve setter Margaret Vernon (Denver, Colo./Ken Denver School) came off the bench to provide 12 assists, two digs, a kill and an ace.
