Baltimore, Md ? The Georgetown University women?s volleyball team posted its eleventh victory of the season with a 3-0 (30-18, 30-23, 30-22) win over UMBC on Tuesday, October 16, in UMBC RAC Arena. The Hoyas now own an 11-6 overall record and a 6-1 mark in Conference play, while the Retrievers fall to 9-10 overall.
Georgetown?s outside hitter Yulia Vtyurina (Moscow, Russia/Moscow #1415) registered 12 kills in addition to a match-high ten digs. Junior outside hitter Lauren Warner (Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei) was credited with a match-high 13 kills and nine digs. Sophomore setter Jennifer Ward (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) ended the match with 29 assists and a .500 hitting percentage. Freshman middle blocker Sara Albert (Davis, Calif./Davis) had a hot hand as well with a match-high hitting percentage of .667, while fellow freshman Lara Bursch (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson) added eight digs to the winning effort. Junior middle blocker Anna Kleinsorge (San Francisco, Calif./St. Francis) contributed eight kills and four digs to help the Hoyas achieve another victory.
Georgetown hit .313 for the match and held UMBC to .241. The Hoyas posted 46 team kills to the Retrievers 33.
Next up for the Hoyas is local foe George Washington on October 20 at 7 p.m. in McDonough Gymnasium.
