Georgetown Volleyball Defeats Villanova in Four Games

Villanova, PA ? The Georgetown University women?s volleyball team rebounded from a loss to Rutgers on Saturday with a 3-1 (30-24, 30-18, 21-30, 30-14) victory over BIG EAST opponent Villanova University on Sunday, October 28, at the Jake Nevin Fieldhouse. The win pushes the Hoyas? record to 14-7 overall and 7-2 in BIG EAST play. The Wildcats fall to 6-13 overall and 1-7 in league competition.

Senior Yulia Vtyurina (Moscow, Russia/Moscow #1415) continues to lead the Hoyas on the court. Vtyurina tallied a double-double off a match-high 24 kills and 10 digs. She also had three blocks and an ace in the contest. Leading the way on offense for Villanova was senior Kerri Sullivan who recorded a team-high 10 kills.

Junior middle blocker Anna Kleinsorge (San Francisco, Calif./St. Francis) and sophomore setter Jen Ward (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) ended the match with solid statistical lines. Kleinsorge tied a match-high for blocks with five and aces with three. She also recorded 13 kills in the victory and hit a outstanding .632 (13 kills with just one error in 19 attempts). Ward handed out a match-high 48 assists to go with eight digs, four kills, three aces and three blocks. Junior outside hitter Lauren Warner (Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei) closed out the four-game match with 10 kills, eight digs, two blocks and two aces.

Senior outside hitter Meg Mullen (Westlake Village, Calif./Westlake) and freshman middle blocker Sara Albert (Davis, Calif./Davis) both contributed seven kills on the day. Mullen added nine digs, five assists, two blocks and an ace, while Albert tied a match-high in blocks with five.

Georgetown hit .326 for the match, while Villanova managed .142. The Hoyas also held an 11-4 advantage in team blocks.
