Women's Tennis at the ITA Regional Championships at UPenn

Five Hoyas tennis players represented Georgetown at the ITA Regional Singles and Doubles Championship hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, October 26 -30.

In the qualifying singles tournament held on Friday, sophomore Jordan Botjer (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades) was defeated by Boston College's Alison Ashley 6-1,6-2. Freshman Liddy Bartell (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines) won her first match defeating Niagra's Colleen Willick 6-0,6-0. In her second qualifying match Friday afternoon, Bartell fell to Cornell's Daniela DelPrete 6-0,1-6,6-1.

In the qualifying doubles tournament which was also held on Friday, the Hoya doubles tandem of senior captain Caroline Marshall (Pittsford, N.Y./Harley) and Liddy Bartell fell to Shelah Chao and Kate Williams of UPenn 8-1.

On Saturday, matches in the main draw of singles and doubles began. In the first round of singles play, freshman Liora Gelblum (Cupertina, Calif./Monta Vista) dispatched Jill Williams of Pittsburgh 6-1,6-4. In doubles play, the Hoya #1 doubles team of sophomores Jordan Botjer and Chelsea Kammerer (Deerfield, Ill./ (Michigan)) were defeated by a score of 8-3 by the team of Christine Kim and Henriette Williams of Virginia.

On Sunday the second round of singles play was conducted and Gelblum was defeated by the #9 seed, Delphine Troch of William and Mary by a score of 6-3,7-5.

The Hoyas have now concluded the fall competitions of the 2001-2002 season and will begin their spring competitions with a February 2, 2002 match-up against local rival George Washington.
