Georgetown Swimming & Diving Teams defeat Binghamton

The Georgetown University men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Binghamton University in a dual meet on Saturday, November 10. The women won easily, 158-83, while the men won a thriller, 119-118.

In the women's action, junior Lauren Moynihan (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) took first place in the 500 and 1000 meter freestyle events with times of 5:21.31 and 10:52.35, respectively. The women completed a sweep of the 500 freestyle event as Amanda Anderson (Denville, N.J./Morristown Beard) took second place (5:23.27) and Colleen Newman (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame) took third (5:30.60). Anderson also took first place in the 200 freestyle event (2:01.02), while Newman also took third in the 1000 freestyle (10:55.56). Freshman Diane Foglizzo (Rosemont, Pa./The Baldwin School) captured wins in the 100 breast and 200 IM events with times of 1:11.71 and 2:16.69, respectively. In the 100 butterfly event, senior Caragh Moynihan (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) collecetd another win for the Hoyas with a time of 1:01.80. In relay action, the team of freshman Michelle Herd (Canton Center, Conn./Westminster), Lauren Moynihan, Diane Foglizzo, and junior phenom Liz D'Auria (Newton, Mass./Newton South) won the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:08.40 while the team of Newman, Anderson, Catherine Hayes (Charlottesville, Va./Albermarle), and Herd won the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:50.45.

In the men's action, senior Chris Lengle (Arlington, Va./Washigton & Lee) won the 50 freestyle (22.10) and took second place in the 100 freestyle (48.58). Sophomore Shodai Enters (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International) won the 200 freestyle (1:47.80) and took third in the 100 freestyle (49.06). The men's meet was eventually decided on the last race, the 400 freestyle relay, as Georgetown needed a first place finish and at least a third place finish to secure the win. The team of Enters, Edmund Caulfield (Caldwell, N.J./St. Peter's Prep), Matt O'Connor (Phoenix, Ariz./Phoenix Country Day) and Jim McLaughlin (Plantsville, Conn./Southington) did their part by winning the race with a time of 3:18.95. The Hoya men clinched the win when the team of Will Miller (Farmingdale, N.J./Freehold), Ted Lin (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Academy), Brad Perez (Tampa, Fla./Jesuit) and Ryan Mrazik (Drexel Hill, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) finished the race in third place (3:27.90), two seconds better than a closing Binghamton team.

The Hoya women divers took both the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions. Sophomore Kathryn Harrison (Chatham, N.J./Hotchkiss, N.J.) won the one-meter (228.00) and placed second in the three-meter (184.50), while sophomore Julianna Bonilla (West Covina, Calif./Covina) took first in the three-meter (225.00) and second in the one-meter (221.78). For the men, sophomore Michael Kizer (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) won both the one and three-meter competitions with scores of 221.93 and 250.95, respectively. Freshman Alan Fong (San Rafael, Calif./Marin Catholic) took second in the one-meter (187.20) and third in the three-meter (162.00)

Georgetown men's and women's swimming and diving will be in action again when they travel to Fairfax, Virginia for the Patriot Invite Friday, November 19 through Sunday, November 18.
