GU Women's Volleyball Team Falls 3-0 to Temple

Washington, DC - The Georgetown University women's volleyball team lost a 3-0 (30-23, 30-17, 30-27) decision to Temple University on Monday, November 12, in McDonough Gym. The loss spoiled Senior Night and dropped the Hoyas to 17-8 (10-8 BIG EAST) overall in the last match of the regular season, while the Owls improved to 19-9 (9-6 Atlantic 10).

Senior outside hitter Yulia Vtyurina (Moscow, Russia/Moscow #1415) led the Hoyas with her 10th double-double of the season. Vtyurina posted a team-high 14 kills and 10 digs. She also tallied two solo blocks, two assists and an ace on the evening. Yamit Haba led Temple with a match-high 19 kills and five aces in addition to eight digs.

Sophomore setter Jen Ward (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) handed out 35 assists in the match. She also chipped in six digs, two blocks and a kill. Sophomore middle blocker Laura Hart (Sacramento, Calif./Rio Americano) stepped up with nine kills, six digs and two blocks, while junior outside hitter Lauren Warner (Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei) contributed six kills, six digs and a block. Senior Meg Mullen (Westlake Village, Calif./Westlake) recorded five kills and seven digs, and freshman middle blocker Sara Albert (Davis, Calif./Davis) added a match-high three blocks as well as four kills to the GU effort.

Georgetown held a 7-3 advantage in team blocks, but hit just .255 for the match, compared to Temple's .366.

The Hoyas travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., to compete as the No. 3 seed in the 2001 BIG EAST Championship. GU will meet the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers on Saturday, November 17, at 3:30 p.m. in the Fitzgerald Fieldhouse.
