Georgetown Swimming Competes in the 2001 Patriot Invitational

The Georgetown University men?s and women?s swimming teams participated this past weekend in the Patriot Invitational in Fairfax, Virginia. The three-day event concluded with the men in third overall while the women finished in fourth place overall.

In the women?s competition, Michelle Herd (Canton Center, Conn./Westminster) placed fourth in the 200 backstroke event with a time of 2:10.02. In the 100 freestyle event, Caragh Moynihan (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) ended with a time of 54.17 to place fourth. In the 400 freestyle relay, Hoyas Liz D?Auria (Newton, Mass./Newton South), Moynihan, Larkin Postles (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) and Genna McKeel (Tampa, Fla./Berkley) placed fourth in the event with a time of 3:40.03. Additionally, on Saturday, freshman Diane Foglizzo (Rosemont, Pa./The Baldwin School) broke an all-time GU record in the 400 IM with a time of 4:38.96.

On the men?s side, Chris Lengle (Arlington, Va./Washington & Lee) competed in the 100 freestyle event recording a 47.66 time earning him fifth place. Bryan Evangelista (Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony?s) earned fifth place in the 200 freestyle (1:58.53). In the 400 freestyle relay, GU?s Shodai Enters (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary?s International), Lengle, Jim McLaughlin (Plantsville, Conn./Southington) and Will Miller (Farmingdale, N.J./Freehold) ended the race with a fourth place finish (3:12.43). In the 1650 event, Brendan Griffen (Andover, Mass./St. John?s Prep) broke the school record set by Bill Bassett in 1990 (16:38), with a time of 16:29.

Georgetown men?s and women?s swimming will be in action again when they host Howard on Saturday, December 1 at 1:00 p.m.
