Men' Soccer Earns Tenth-Straight BIG EAST Berth

WASHINGTON, D.C. ?Georgetown University will face Notre Dame in the BIG EAST Conference Men?s Soccer Championships on Saturday, November 10 at 7:30 p.m. The Hoyas will play the Irish at Alumni Field in Sound Bend, Ind. It is the tenth-straight season the Hoyas have earned a berth in the BIG EAST Championships.

Georgetown has advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals three times and to the Championship game two times. This year, the Hoyas finished the 2001 regular season with a 9-8-1 overall record. Georgetown was 6-4 in BIG EAST play.

Offensively, the Hoyas are led by seniors Nate Port and Kenny Owens. Port leads the team with 11 goals and 25 points and Owens is second with six goals and 16 points. GU has seven seniors who are looking to advance to their second BIG EAST Championship in their careers. Port, Owens, Dan Ryan, Peter Finn, Michael Gross, Andy Sole, and Truls Engebretson have combined to score 18 goals this season, 58 career goals and have led the team to four straight winning seasons. The class of 2002 boasts three BIG EAST Academic All-Star selections, numerous BIG EAST Players of the Week honors, and have amassed a record of 42-31-3 in their four years.
