Georgetown Loses to Drexel

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Feb. 5) -- The Georgetown University Women's swimming and diving team suffered a heartbreaking 121-119 loss at the hands of the Drexel Dragons on Saturday, February 3, dropping their record to 7-3.

Despite the loss, the Hoyas notched several impressive swims. Genna McKeel (So., Tampa, Fla.) gained an outstanding win in the 200 free (2:00.95) while also finishing second in the 100 breast (1:10.70), Liz D'Auria (So., Newton, Mass.) gained first in the 100 free (55.98) and third in the 50 free (25.77), and Lauren Moynihan (So., South Hadley, Mass.) and Amanda Anderson (Jr., Denville, N.J.) finished first and second in the 500 free with times of 5:14.61 and 5:18.25, respectively. The Hoyas also gained a sweep in the 1000 free as Erin Kehoe (Fr., Haddon Hts., N.J.), Anderson, and Katie Hayes (So., Charlottesville, Va.) finished with times of 10:51.10, 10:55.72, and 11:11.65, respectively.

Saturday's meet also produced several other notable swims. Colleen Newman (Fr., Staten Island, N.Y.) finished third in the 200 free (2:02.92), Erin Lenahan (So., Western Springs, Ill.) gained second in the 50 free (25.58), Lauren Moynihan added a second place finish in the 200 IM (2:16.54) to her win in the 500 free, captain Caragh Moynihan (Jr., New Canaan, Conn.) swam the 100 fly in 59.83 to finish second, Francesca DiSilvio (So., Hingham, Mass.) and Amanda Burke (So., Reno, Nev.) finished second and third in the 100 back with times of 1:03.89 and 1:06.34, respectively, and Kristie Hunt (So., Glenview, Ill.) garnered third place honors in the 100 breast (1:12.10).

Two Hoya relay teams reaped the fruits of hard work as both gained second place honors. The team of DiSilvio, Hunt, Caragh Moynihan, and Lenahan finished the 200 medley in 1:56.32, while the team of Lenahan, Christine Costello (Fr., Lynbrook, N.Y.), DiSilvio, and D'Auria finished the 200 free relay in 1:41.60.

The Hoya divers also made a significant contribution to the meet as Julianna Bonilla (Fr., West Covina, Calif.) and Kathryn Harrison (Fr., Chatham, N.J.) finished second and third in both the one meter and three meter diving competitions, respectively. Their scores were 234.15 and 228.835 in the one meter and 248.4 and 215.93 in the three meter.
