The Georgetown University women’s tennis team fell to host Villanova, 5-2, this past Saturday amidst cold and rainy weather. The Hoyas fell to 3-9 overall on the year and 1-2 in BIG EAST competition.
In double’s competition, the Hoyas failed to earn the highly coveted first point of the match as they lost two out of three matches to the Wildcats. Despite an impressive 8-3 win by Caroline Marshall (Jr., Pittsford, N.Y./Harley) and Hadley Muckerman (So., St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) at #1 doubles, the tandems of Jordan Botjer (Fr., Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades)/Julie Hom (Sr., Newton, Mass/Newton South) and Lara Madonia (Fr., Ramsey, N.J./ Immaculate Heart Academy)/Meredith Bumpass (So., Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Hawken School (Colgate)) both fell to tough Villanova teams by a score of 8-2.
The Hoyas then quickly found themselves in a 3-0 hole as Madonia and Muckerman both fell in single’s competition by a score of 6-0, 6-2, at #3 and #4 respectively. The team made a valiant comeback as the deficit was cut to 3-2 compliments of a 6-2, 7-5 win by Marshall at #1 and a 6-4, 7-5 victory by Botjer at #2. However, back-to-back losses by Bumpass (6-4, 7-5) and Hom (3-6, 6-1, 6-2) sealed the victory for Villanova.
The team will next be in action Wednesday, March 28 vs. Howard in Washington, D.C. at Georgetown's home courts.
