In Philadelphia this weekend, the Georgetown women's crew team swept all seven of their races against Drexel and MIT. The men also saw action over the weekend, racing against Rutgers and Cornell.
The women's Varsity Eight won both of their races on Saturday, April 7, defeating MIT in the morning with a time of 6:35.71 and Drexel in the afternoon with a time of 6:43.78. The team of senior captain Marie Frank (Berkeley, Calif.), senior Kate Johnson, (Fairfax, Va.), senior Leila Berkley (Baltimore, Md.), senior Nori Limarzi (Silver Spring, Md.), junior Nikki Duncan (Hartford, Conn.), sophomore Jess Maley (St. Augustine, Fla.), sophomore Kelly O'Brien (Beaverton, Ore.), sophomore Christine Strzelczyk (Glen Rock, N.J.), and freshman Justine Landegger (Ridgefield, Conn.) set the pace for the rest of the Hoyas, who won each of their races.
Georgetown's Novice Eight defeated MIT by timing out at 6:47.31. The Novice Eight then split into A and B squads, but beat Drexel with times of 6:43.30 and 7:01.9, respectively. In Lightweight Eight, the Hoyas edged MIT with a time of 6:43.45, and also won the JV Eight against Drexel with a 6:54.50 finish. Finally, the women notched a victory over MIT in the Novice Four with a 7:47.31 time.
Against Rutgers in Mercer County, N.J., the Hoya men won one race and placed second on two others. In the Varsity Eight, Georgetown slipped past Rutgers with a time of 6:13.73. In the Second Varsity Eight race, Georgetown finished in second place by timing out at 6:27.8. The last race, the Freshmen Novice Eight, saw the Hoyas finish with a second place time of 6:44.59.
The men's other race took place against Cornell in Princeton, N.J., where the Hoyas placed second in each event. In the Varsity Eight, Georgetown had a finishing mark of 5:56.8. In the second and third Varsity Eight races, the Hoyas finished with respective times of 6:08.6 and 6:48.6. In the Freshman Novice Eight, the men timed out at 6:20.2. In the last event, the second Freshman Novice Eight, Georgetown had a finishing mark of 6:48.8.
All Georgetown crews will compete at the George Washington Invitational in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, April 14.
