May 17, 2001

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Georgetown University Men's Soccer Coach Keith Tabatznik has named Greg Franzke as one of his assistant coaches. Franzke comes to Georgetown after serving as George Mason's full-time assistant the last five seasons. He assisted in all aspects of the soccer program including on-field coaching, recruiting and administrative duties. Franzke will begin his duties at GU on July 1.

Franzke holds a USSF "A" coaching license. He is also the Northern Development ODP Coaching Coordinator. He oversees staff and player development in six age groups, ranging from under-13 to under-18. Previously, Franzke coached at the district two level for two seasons.

A four-year starter at George Mason during his playing days, Franzke graduated in 1993 with a degree in marketing. He helped lead the Patriots to two NCAA Tournament appearances as a central defender. He also played a season at defensive midfield and tied a school record with nine assists. Franzke was a two-time First Team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection. He attended Bethpage High School in Bethpage, N.Y., where he was a Parade All-American as a senior.
