WASHINGTON, DC -- Georgetown University Head Coach Li Liu has named Paul Koncir as an assistant women's volleyball coach for the 2001 season. Koncir comes to Georgetown after serving as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's volleyball programs at George Mason University.
A 1999 graduate of George Mason University with a degree in studio arts, Koncir suited up for the Patriots' men's volleyball team as a three-year starter at the outside hitter/defensive specialist position. He also found time to coach while at Mason. In 1999, Koncir was an assistant coach for the Patriots' men's volleyball team as well as a second assistant coach for the GMU women's volleyball program.
Since graduation, Koncir has continued to play competitively. He was a member of the 2000 Scotland Volleyball Association-Scottish Open-Division of Honor Championship team and played for the 1999 team that earned runner-up honors. He also played on the USAV-Chesapeake Region AA-Regional Championship team in 1998-99. In addition, Koncir played on the 1998 Tournament Champion team in the Bahama Volleyball Federation's Bahama Games.
Outside of Georgetown, Koncir begins his second term as the Head Coach of the Northern Virginia Volleyball (NOVA) Junior Team (18 and under). He was the assistant coach of the Fairfax Virginia Juniors 18 and under team from 1995-97. Koncir has coached or directed volleyball camps for the past six years (1995-2001), including being the Technical Director of the Patriot Camp at George Mason and camps at the University of Delaware, Frostburg State University, Ohio State University, Towson University and UMBC.
