WASHINGTON, D.C. ? Georgetown University?s women?s and men?s swimming and diving teams were recently recognized as All-Academic Teams for the 2001 Winter/Spring Semester by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
The men?s team topped the list of Division I schools, compiling a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.44. The GU women?s team combined for a team GPA of 3.399, the ninth best among 46 women?s Division I programs.
This marks the 13th consecutive semester the Hoya scholar athletes have received CSCAA Academic All-America accolades since head coach Beth Bower came to Georgetown seven seasons ago. Both teams have received the distinction in each semester under Bower?s direction.
In order to qualify for the CSCAA All-Academic honor, the grade-point average of the entire swimming and diving team, including all student-athletes on the eligibility list, must average at least a 2.8 on a 4.0 scale. Those GPA?s that are 3.25 or better receive a "superior" rating. A GPA of 3.00 or better receives an "excellent" rating and a 2.80 or better GPA receives a "commendable" rating. Both the men?s and women?s teams received a "superior" rating.
The Hoyas open their season 2001-2002 season at the Potomac Relays on October 12.
