Women' Basketball Defeated by #1 UConn at Home

WASHINGTON ? Georgetown fell behind 15-0 in the first four minutes to #1 Connecticut and was never able to recover losing 85-41 at home. Freshman Mary Lisicky (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) paced the Hoyas with 12 points, while Connecticut had four players in double figures led by Swin Cash?s 18.

UConn led 43-18 at the half based off 14 first half turnovers by the Hoyas. After the break the Hoyas? Nok Duany (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington) and Lisicky combined to score nine points and cut the Huskies? lead to 49-28 at the 17:07 mark. Connecticut then went on a 14-6 run and would never let the Hoyas cut the lead below 30 the remainder of the game. Freshman Christina Besozzi (Kensington, Md./Stone Ridge) netted her first career points as a Hoya, ripping down an offensive board and hitting the putback with 5:36 to play.

For the game GU shot 29.3% compared to UConn?s 47.7%. Both teams struggled from three- point land with GU connecting on 5 of 20 and UConn on 6 of 20. Connecticut barely outrebounded the Hoyas, 40-39. Georgetown?s leaders on the glass were Duany with eight and Santia Jackson (Chicago, Ill./The Latin School) with seven. The Huskies? Cash had a double double with 18 points and 10 boards.

GU starts a two game Conference road trip this Saturday in Syracuse at 2 p.m. Then the Hoyas will travel to Pittsburgh on Wednesday, January 23 for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
