Men's Soccer Loses 5-1 at UConn

STORRS, CT (October 6) ? A natural hat trick by UConn's Cesar Cuellar lifted the University of Connecticut men?s soccer team past Georgetown University, 5-1, before a crowd of 5,011 at Morrone Stadium on Saturday night. Georgetown dropped its overall record to 4-6-0, 2-3-0 in the BIG EAST.

Georgetown began the night?s scoring at the 16:27 mark of the first half. Georgetown was awarded a free kick taken 25-yards out. Trevor Goodrich (Palo Alto, Calif./ Palo Alto) took the shot that sailed into the goal, just inside the right post, out of the reach of the diving UConn keeper Adam Schuerman. UConn countered five-minutes later, for the first of Cuellar?s goals. Cuellar headed the second goal in off a crossed pass at the 33:36 mark of the half. With 5:56 left on the clock, Cuellar sealed the hat trick, raising the score to 3-1.

Connecticut?s fourth goal was notched by Marcus Svensson. Cuellar was taken down just outside the UConn offensive box at the 66:09 mark of the game. Svensson wrapped the ball around the five-man wall to the left side of the net, out of the reach of the screened Hoya goalie, Tim Hogan (Richmond, Va./ Freeman). The Huskies capped off the scoring on Damani Ralph?s goal at the 71:35 mark.

UConn's Schuerman played the majority of the game recording one save, while Peter Lechak saw his first collegiate minutes in net, also making one save. Hogan stopped five shots on goal. Connecticut out shot GU, 30-8.

Georgetown heads home for a contest against the University of Maryland, this Wednesday at 3 p.m. on North Kehoe Field.
