Bridgeport, Conn. ? Georgetown?s women?s basketball team was crowned the 2002 Coca-Cola Charity Classic Champion after a 72-69 victory over Hofstra in the finals. The Hoyas overall record now stands at 4-0.

Mary Lisicky (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) and Nok Duany (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington North) were both selected to the All-Tournament team. Lisicky posted 15 points and Duany inked her first double double of the 2002 season with 14 points and 11 boards in the finals.

GU?s first half play was marked by missed opportunities as the Hoyas took 41 shots in the half but only connected on 10 (24.4% from the field). Meanwhile the Pride sank 9-of-11 free throws compared to Georgetown?s 4-of-6 and Hofstra owned a 33-27 lead at the break. The Hoyas were led on the scoreboard by Lisicky who sank two threes while Hofstra?s Jen Brickey netted 10 of her game high 34 in the first 20 minutes.

The Hoyas two first year players, Carmen Bruce (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) and Leslie Tyburski (Hammond, Ind./Gavit) fueled the Hoyas second half charge. Bruce posted all 11 of her points in the final stanza including a run of nine in the first six minutes to help cut a Hofstra lead of 11 down to two. HU?s Brickey and Cigi McCollin stretched the lead back to 10 four minutes later before Tyburski scored her 10 points in the final 11 minutes. With the Pride holding a 52-42 lead Tyburski banged in her first three of the game. Tyburski then found Duany cutting to the hole and hit another tri-fecta putting the Hoyas down three with 6:55 to play. GU?s deficit stayed between three and five for the next four minutes until Lisicky drained a three to tie the contest with 2:12 remaining. A fast break layup by Duany and two free throws by Tyburski opened up a four-point Hoya edge with under 44 seconds. Hofstra?s Brickey had a chance to tie the contest but her last second three fell short.

Georgetown outrebounded its opponent for the fourth straight game by securing 19 offensive rebounds and 39 total compared to Hofstra?s 38 boards. GU?s Rebekkah Brunson (Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon Hill) corralled 13 rebounds to lead both teams.

The Hoyas take the floor again this Wednesday, December 4, at home in McDonough Gymnasium at 8 p.m. against New Hampshire.
