The Hoya faced local rival James Madison on Sunday afternoon Feb. 10, 2002 at the Montclair Tennis Bubble in Dumfries, Va. The JMU Dukes won the match 4-3 behind strong doubles play.

In the doubles competition that opened the team match, the Hoyas were swept in all three matches. At #1 doubles, the Hoya tandem of Caroline Marshall (Pittsford, N.Y./Harley) and Chelsea Kammerer (Deerfield, Ill./ (Michigan)) was upended 8-4 by Liz Simon and Christy Michaux. At #2 doubles, Hoyas Trina Snow (Sartell, Minn./Sartell) and Liddy Bartell (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines) were downed 8-5 by Rebecca Vanderelst and Margie Zesinger. In the #3 doubles match Jordan Botjer (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades) and Liora Gelblum (Cupertina, Calif./Monta Vista) were defeated 8-4 by Kristin Veith and Spencer Brown.

The Hoyas needed a strong comeback in singles, but James Madison proved too tough. At #1, Gelblum fell to Zesinger 6-2, 6-4. At #3 Botjer was defeated by Brown 6-3, 6-1. At #5 Lara Madonia (Ramsey, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) was outhit by Veith 6-1, 6-1. JMU had clinched the team match with four wins, but GU kept pressing and won the three remaining singles matches. At #6 Marshall defeated Britt Rowley 6-1, 7-5. At #2 Bartell defeated Simno 6-2 and at #4 Snow defeated Vanderlest 7-6(6). The final score was Georgetown-3, James Madison-4. The Hoyas are now 0-3 in dual match play for the 2002 season.

Next on the agenda for the Hoyas is a Feb. 15 match-up with cross-town rival George Mason at the Burke Racquet Club beginning at 1:00 p.m.
