The Georgetown University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed on Saturday, February 2 against the Dragons from Drexel University. The women convincingly beat Drexel by 69 points, while the men?s team was not as successful, losing by 19.
In the women events, GU recorded several first and second place finishes. Hoyas Michelle Herd (Canton Center, CT/ Westminster), Kristin Canzano (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford High), Caragh Moynihan (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and Erin Lenahan (Western Springs, IL/St. Ignatius) placed first in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:55.78. Freshman Diane Foglizzo (Rosemont, Pa./The Baldwin School) had an impressive performance, placing first in both the 1000 Freestyle event (10:54.13) and the 200 IM (2:16.86). Moynihan finished first in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:00.39, in addition to grabbing second place in the 50 Freestyle with a 25.65 finish. Sophomore Colleen Newman (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame) achieved second place in both the 200 Freestyle (2:01.30) and the 500 Freestyle event (5:22.22). Both seniors Larkin Postles (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) and Amanda Anderson (Denville, N.J./Morristown Beard) placed first in the 100 Freestyle (57.04) and the 200 Freestyle (1:59.52), respectively. In diving, sophomore Juliana Bonilla (West Covina, Calif./Covina) placed first in the 1 meter Diving Competition with a final score of 217.13.
As for the men?s team, senior Chris Lengle (Arlington, Va./Washington and Lee) was a top finisher, placing first in both the 50 and 100 Freestyle, finishing with a 21.76 time and a 47.84 time, respectively. With regard to relay competition, Hoyas Stephen Ferguson (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum High), Matt O?Connor (Phoenix, Ariz./Phoenix Country Day), Bryan Evangelista (Northport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and Lengle finished first in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:38.86. Freshman Brendan Griffin (Andover, MA/ St. John?s Prep) topped all swimmers in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 10:03.81, while junior Jim McLaughlin (Plantsville, CT/Southington High) grabbed first place as well in the 500 Freestyle (4:50.98). Shodai Enters (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary?s International) came up with a first place finish in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:47.37, in addition to taking second place in the 100 Freestyle (48.92). In diving, sophomore Michael Kizer (Atlanta, GA/Westminster) placed third in the 1 meter Diving event with a final score of 205.73.
Georgetown men's and women's swimming and diving will be in action again on Saturday February 9 when they travel to take on the Blue Hens of University of Delaware at 1:00 p.m.
