Hoyas Earn BIG EAST Win in Women' Tennis

The Hoyas traveled to Providence, R.I. for their first BIG EAST dual match of the 2002 season and came away a 5-1 winner.

The doubles competition was not held due to a late start and the continued threat of inclement weather. In singles play, Georgetown proved too strong as Georgetown swept #2 through #6 singles surrendering only one set. At #4 singles Trina Snow (Sartell, Minn./Sartell) downed Katie Bednar 6-0,6-0. At #2 singles Liddy Bartell (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines) defeated Gina Vlasek 6-1,6-0. At #5 singles Caroline Marshall (Pittsford, N.Y./Harley) defeated Katie Lafayette 6-2,6-1. At #6 singles Lara Madonia (Ramsey, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) defeated Molly Gilbride 6-3,6-0. At #3 singles, Jordan Botjer (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades) rebounded from a tough first set to defeat Erin Haley 2-6, 6-0, 6-0. Finally, in the best match of the day Hoya #1 Liora Gelblum (Cupertina, Calif./Monta Vista) fell just short in her match against PC?s Brooke Rubin, falling 7-6 (5),6-4.

Next Saturday the Hoyas host Villanova at the Georgetown Outdoor Tennis Complex at 12 noon.
