3/20/2002

Burlington, N.C. ? The Georgetown University women?s golf squad was in Burlington, N.C., this past weekend for the Fifth Annual Elon Intercollegiate Women?s Golf Tournament, which drew a field of 76 golfers from 14 participating schools. The tournament was intended to consist of 36 holes spread over two days ? Saturday, March 16 through Sunday, March 17, however, the weather was uncooperative and Sunday?s round had to be cancelled due to rain. As a result, the first-round results from Saturday?s 18 holes became the final standings, leaving Western Carolina University as the tournament champion for their one-day total of 322. The Hoyas' composite score of 347 was good for ninth place.

Radford University?s Laura Terebey took top individual honors with her score of 71. Georgetown freshman Lauren Frazer (Annapolis, Md.) shot an 80, which tied her with five other participants for ninth place overall. Frazer?s fellow teammate, Connie Isler (Fr., Fort Meade, Md.), finished with a tally of 86, tying her for 30th place among the individual competitors. GU?s top five individual performers also consisted of sophomores Heather McDermott (Newport Beach, Calif.), Jill Haak (Baltimore, Md.), and Gilliam Fell (Locust Valley, N.Y.), whose stroke totals stood at 90, 91 and 93, respectively.

Next on the schedule for Georgetown women?s golf team is the William & Mary Spring Invitational, which will be held March 30-31 at Ford?s Colony in Williamsburg, Va.
