Honolulu, HI?The Georgetown University coed sailing team finished in third place at the 2002 ICSA North American Team Race Championships, held in Honolulu, Hawaii on June 2-4.
After another day in paradise, Georgetown finished in third place with twelve wins and five losses. Harvard won the title with a 17-0 record with Tufts claiming second place at 13-4. Charleston (8-9) and Hawaii rounded out the top five finishers.
Head Coach Michael Callahan remarked, "We had a winning combination down at the leeward mark in every race." Unfortunately, the Tufts? Jumbos took the Hoyas? wind and the double round robin ended in two wins and four losses for Georgetown. Skippers for the Hoyas were seniors Brian Bissell (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor). Ken Ward (Tampa, Fla./The Hotchkiss School) and sophomore Tyler Haskell (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor).
GU crews were seniors Alex Holtan (Larchmont N.Y./Mamoroneck), Kat Penberthy (Rowayton, Conn./TheTaft School), Leah Williams (South Dartmouth, Mass./Tabor Academy) and Melanie Wood (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles), along with junior Shelly Wentworth (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable), sophomore Eliza Ryan (Marblehead Mass./Marblehead) and freshman Barbara Hall (Marion, Mass./Tabor Academy).
