WASHINGTON, D.C. ? The Georgetown men?s soccer team finished it?s Labor Day weekend in the D.C. College Cup today at American University. On a rainy afternoon at Reeves Field GU lost 4-0 to tournament champion American University. Georgetown?s overall record drops to 0-2.
American took the lead 13 minutes into the game when Andrew Herman beat Hoya keeper Tim Hogan (Richmond, Va./Freeman) in the left corner. Georgetown held tight and had a splendid scoring opportunity but Michael Banner?s (Washington, D.C./Gonzaga) shot from outside the box was saved by an AU defender. GU was outshot 13-3 in the half and AU hit another goal in the 32nd minute.
The second half was marked by wet field conditions but GU?s defense, led by
Jeff Curtin (Oreland, Pa./Germantown Academy) and
Dan Gargan (Philadelphia, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy), was able to limit the Eagles to only four shots. Two of the four shot found the goal as AU?s Peter Philipakos hit both and closed out the game?s scoring. Curtin and Gargan were both selected to the D.C. College Cup All-Tournament team for their efforts today against American and for Friday?s game with George Washington.
Hogan ended his first start of the season with five saves and four goals against for Georgetown. The Hoyas have a week break before starting the BIG EAST season with an away game at Syracuse on September 7th at 1 p.m.
