GU Women' Volleyball Team Falls to Maryland 3-1

September 10, 2002  Washington, DC ? The Georgetown University women?s volleyball team dropped a heartbreaking 3-1 (26-30, 30-27, 25-30, 28-30) decision to the University of Maryland on Tuesday, September 10, at McDonough Gym.  The Terrapins improve to 7-0 on the season, while the Hoyas fall to 4-3. 

Senior outside hitter Lauren Warner (Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei) led Georgetown with 21 kills in addition to nine digs, three assists and an ace.  Junior outside hitter Lynnsy Jones also tallied 21 kills and nine digs to pace the Terps.  She also had three aces and two blocks on the evening.

Freshmen outside hitters Natasha Nguyen (El Segundo, Calif./El Segundo) and Rachel Nelson (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis) continue to turn in solid performances for the Hoyas.  Nguyen posted 16 kills, seven assists, six digs and four aces, while Nelson added 14 kills and 13 digs.  Nguyen also hit a team-best .355.  Junior setter Jen Ward (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) dished out 52 assists and recorded 12 kills and three blocks.  Senior middle blocker Anna Kleinsorge (San Francisco, Calif./St. Francis) contributed a match-high five blocks, including four solos, and seven kills.  Sophomore outside hitter Julie Grauert (Lake Oswego, Ore./Jesuit) played the libero position and chipped in a match-high 18 digs.



 The two teams ended the match with virtually the same hitting percentage.  Maryland hit .286 for the night, and the Hoyas were close behind with a .281 average.  GU held a 9-6 advantage in team blocks, but had 16 service errors in the match.
