Men' Golf Finishes Fourth at JMU Invitational

9/23/2002

After their top five finish at last week?s Navy Invitational, the Georgetown Men?s Golf Team capitalized on their excellent play to earn a tie for fourth at the JMU Invitational this weekend, September 21-22, at Lakeview GC in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The Hoyas set a Georgetown scoring record for 54 holes, with a 858 (283, 292, 283) over the three round tournament, tying with Richmond and St. John?s for the fourth place finish. Penn State won the tournament with a three round total of 820, followed by JMU (845) and Maryland (850).

Juniors Nick Cook (Shelton, Conn./Fairfield Prep) and Jamie Farrah (Potomac, Md./Georgetown Prep) once again led Georgetown in individual scoring and both finished the event one stroke off the all-time Hoya record of 208 held by Tristan Lewis. Cook turned in a 68 on the first round, followed by a 73 and another 68, shooting a combined 209 for the tournament. Farrah also shot a 209 with rounds of 71, 71, and 67. They tied with Andrew Svoboda of St. John?s for eighth overall.

Freshman Matt Myers (St. Joseph, Mo./Central High School) was the next best finisher for the Hoyas, earning a tie for 59th overall after shooting a combined 222 (71, 75, 76). He was closely followed by fellow freshman David Erickson (Edina, Minn./The Blake School), who shot 223 (76, 73, 74) and finished in a tie for 61st. Sophomore Chad DeLuca (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) was just three shots back of Erickson with a 226 (73, 79, 74) to complete the Hoya outing.

Georgetown will resume play in two weeks when they travel to Glenmaura National GC in Mossic, Pennsylvania to compete in the Temple Invitational on the weekend of October 5-6.
