GU Women' Volleyball Team Loses Heartbreaker to Pittsburgh

September 29, 2002 Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Georgetown University women?s volleyball team fell 3-1 (30-27, 26-30, 23-30, 27-30) to the Pittsburgh Panthers on Saturday, September 28, at Fitzgerald Field House. The match opened the BIG EAST portion of both teams? schedules and was particularly tough for the Hoyas as they started out strong in the first game, but could not keep the Panthers at bay.

The win was the Panthers? ninth straight, marking its longest winning streak since a 10-game win streak in 1996. Pittsburgh improved to 11-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while the Hoyas drop to 8-6 overall and 0-1 in league competition.

The first game was a back-and-forth affair that Georgetown was able to close out with a late run. Pittsburgh returned the favor with a closing run to finish off the Hoyas in game two, controlled much of game three and held off the visitors in the final contest.

Outside hitter Lauren Warner (Sr., Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei) led Georgetown with 19 kills, 10 digs, three service aces and two assists. Middle blocker Sara Albert (Davis, Calif./Davis) had 12 kills, a team-high .357 hitting percentage and 10 blocks, including four solos.

Redshirt sophomore Megan Miller led five Panthers who registered double-digits in kills with 18 in 25 attempts. Miller had just one error for a hitting percentage of .680 and added two blocks and three digs.
