Women's Hoops Opens Up BIG EAST Season with Miami

The Skinny:
Off to the third best start in Georgetown history, the Hoyas tip off the 2002-03 BIG EAST schedule against the University of Miami Hurricanes. Georgetown fell 52-69 to the ?Canes in the first round of the 2001-02 BIG EAST Tournament. The Hoyas headed home and Miami was knocked out in the second round by Villanova. Both teams have stormed out of the gates in the current season. Today?s game features two of the top five offenses in the BIG EAST and two of the top three individual scorers in GU?s Rebekkah Brunson and Miami?s Tamara James.

Brunson is averaging 18.2 points per game, coming off her sixth double-double of the season against George Washington when she scored 21 points and added 12 rebounds. Georgetown is in the midst of a three game winning streak in which Brunson has double-doubled each time.

James leads Miami and the BIG EAST with 24.2 points per game, nabbing 9.5 rebounds as well. After dropping three of its first six games the Hurricanes have rebounded to win five straight, averaging 82.2 points per game in that span and winning by an average margin of 26 points.
