WASHINGTON, D.C. ? The Georgetown swimming and diving program hosted the Potomac Relay Invitational Friday at McCarthy Pool, and the Hoyas placed sixth in the seven-team women?s contest and sixth in the men?s division.
George Washington won the women?s competition, with 114 points, while American was victorious on the men?s side, with 122 points.
George Mason (57), Navy (56), American (52) and Mary Washington (38) rounded out the top five for the women, and Lafayette (22) placed seventh, behind the Hoyas.
George Washington (68), George Mason (63), Lafayette (61) and Mary Washington (37) claimed the 2-3-4-5 slots, respectively, in the men?s contest.
Sophomore Corinne Rhodes (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks) and freshmen Mary Mason (Chicago, Ill./ St. Ignatius), Liz Nugent (New Canaan, Conn./The Hopkins School) and Laura Sytnyk (Nutley, N.J./Mount St. Dominic) recorded Georgetown?s top performance on the day, with a third-place finish in the 400 yd medley relay (4:19.10). George Washington (4:15.82) and Mary Washington (4:17.75) earned the top two finishes in the event.
Georgetown tallied fourth-place finishes in the women?s 800 yd freestyle relay, women?s 300 yd backstroke relay, men?s 1000 yd freestyle relay, and women?s 1000 yd freestyle relay, as well as fifth-place finishes in the women?s 200 yd medley relay, men?s 800 yd freestyle relay, men?s 300 yd butterfly relay and men?s 500 yd relay.
The team will return to action this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with a dual meet at home against Loyola College.
