Georgetown Women's Swimming and Diving Edged By Loyola

WASHINGTON, D.C. ? The Georgetown women?s swimming and diving program suffered a narrow defeat against Loyola College on Saturday, 130-113, in a dual meet hosted by the Hoyas at McCarthy Pool.

Senior Colleen Newman (Staten Island, N.Y./ Notre Dame) and sophomore Katie Amaro (Shreveport, La./ Loyola Prep) both had phenomenal days in the pool, with Newman posting wins in the 1000 yd freestyle (10:57.99) and 500 yd freestyle (5:24.51), and Amaro claiming victories in the 200 yd freestyle (1:58.85) and 100 yd freestyle (55.46).

Georgetown?s divers also had a strong meet, with senior Juliana Bonilla (West Covina, Calif./ Covina High) placing second in the 3 mtr (220.95) and third in the 1 mtr (216.00) and Kathryn Harrison (Morristown, N.J./ The Hotchkiss School) placing second in the 1 mtr (219.38) and third in the 3 mtr (215.00).

Freshman Liz Nugent (Westport, Conn./ The Hopkins School) led off the Hoyas? winning 200 yd medley relay (1:54.65) and also contributed second place finishes in the 200 yd individual medley (2:15.90) and 100 yd backstroke (1:02.92).

The Hoyas will next take to the water on Nov. 1, when they travel to Newark, Del., to take on the Blue Hens.
