WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Hoya women?s tennis players Liddy Bartell (Jr., Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./ Torrey Pines) and Eileen Boyle (Fr., Burr Ridge, Ill./ St. Ignatius Prep (Chicago)) represented Georgetown in the ITA Eastern Regional Championships held at Virginia Tech October 23-25. The regional championship brings together the top players from the top Eastern schools between Maine and Virginia.

In the singles competition Bartell advanced to the second round of play in the Main Draw with a 6-3,4-6,6-3 victory over Yana Tikhonko of Marist College. In the second round of play the seeded player in her bracket, Lena Sherbakov of the College of William and Mary, 6-2,6-0, upended Bartell.

In doubles, Bartell and Boyle had a strong performance in their first round match. However, the team of Lipp and Wenick from Colgate proved to be too tough, downing the Hoya tandem 8-5.

In the consolation singles draw, Boyle had another strong showing, falling 6-1,6-4 to Jennifer Dent of Maryland.

The Hoyas have now completed their 2003 fall season. They are scheduled to begin their spring 2004 competitions during the last weekend in January at the Virginia Commonwealth University 4+1 Invitational.
