WASHINGTON, D.C. ? The Providence College Friars, coming off a 1-1 tie to Boston College after 2OT, defeated Georgetown (4-5-2, 1-4-0) 3-1 on a pleasant but windy day at North Kehoe Field. The Hoyas fall to 1-4 on the season in Big East competition.

Georgetown took an early lead with a goal by Paul Brandley (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) just 22 minutes into the game. Coming off a corner kick from Trevor Goodrich (Palo Alto, Ca./Palo Alto), it took three shots and an assist from teammate Kaiser Chowdhry (Columbia, Md./McDonogh) before the ball would cross the goal line. The Hoyas maintained this 1-0 lead into halftime.

Providence evened the score with Eoin Lynch?s goal almost 58 minutes into the game off an assist from David Chase. The Friars took the lead under a minute later when Ian Wexler scored on a break away past two of Georgetown?s defenders and a diving Tim Hogan (Richmond, Va./Freeman).

Lynch sealed the game with his second goal of the day, coming at 87 minutes. Driving past Georgetown goalkeeper Hogan, Lynch was able to put one past Carl Skanderup?s (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) attempt at a head-save.

Five yellow cards were issued in the second half of this extremely physical contest. The first two, coming early in the half, were issued to Providence?s Eoin Lynch and Derek Nobrega, the latter coming off a skirmish with Georgetown?s Hogan. The next three cards were issued to Hoyas' Kaiser Chowdhry (Columbia, Md./ McDonogh), Tim Convey (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter), and Dan Gargan (Philadelphia, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy).

Each team recorded five shots on goal, a category that Georgetown led for most of the game. Providence goalkeeper Jeff Newman made four saves to fend off the Hoyas. Hogan made two saves in the game.

The Hoyas travel to #1 Maryland Wednesday, October 8 for a 7 p.m. game against the Terrapins.
