11/1/2003

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C.? The Hoyas' men's soccer team lost the final home game of the season 1-0 to #25 Connecticut. It marked the final home affair for three seniors: David Eder (Glencoe, Ill./ New Trier (DePaul)), Tim Hogan (Richmond, Va./Freeman) and Carl Skanderup (Barrington, Ill./ Barrington). Georgetown drops to 7-9-2 on the season, 3-7-0 in the BIG EAST.  UConn advances to 8-7-3, with a 5-3-2 BIG EAST record.

Although carrying the momentum, Georgetown fell behind early, just 12:17 into the game, when UConn?s Steve Sealy scored on a pass from teammate Lindon Pecorelli after a save from Georgetown goalkeeper Hogan.  Although they had several chances, the Hoyas were unable to overcome the one goal deficit.

A lively crowd of over 1,100 cheered on the Hoyas, who were certainly not without scoring opportunities.  For most of the second half the momentum was in Georgetown?s favor, but they were unable to produce a score.

With 12 minutes left in the game the Hoyas had a chance to tie the game on a penalty kick by Jeff Curtin (Oreland, Pa./ Germantown Academy).  The shot sent UConn goalie Adam Schuerman diving to his left to come up with a huge save and maintain the 1-0 lead.

The Hoyas travel to Delaware Tuesday, November 4th at 7:00 p.m. for their final game of the season.
