Hoyas Sweep Friars in Women' Volleyball Action

PROVIDENCE, R.I. ? The Georgetown women?s volleyball team swept the Friars of Providence College 3-0 (30-22, 30-26, 30-28) on Saturday, November 1, in Mullaney Gym.  Middle blockers Sara Albert (Jr., Davis, Calif./Davis) and Annie Conner (Fr., Los Altos, Calif./St. Francis) led the Hoyas with 11 kills each.  The victory improves GU?s overall record to 7-16 on the season,while Providence falls to 3-22 on the year.

Albert also recorded a match-high eight digs and three blocks.  In addition, she hit .526 for the match (11 kills with just one error in 19 attempts).  Connor added three digs and a block to GU?s winning efforts.  She also posted the Hoyas? best hitting percentage with a .562 on the strength of 11 kills with two errors in 16 attempts.

In addition to Albert and Connor, sophomore outside hitter Rachel Nelson (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis) stepped up with 10 kills, five digs, two blocks and two aces. Junior setter Margaret Vernon (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver School) tallied a match-high 27 assists to go with four digs and a block.

Sophomore setter Annie Fiorvanti and junior middle blocker Ayana Cadres led the Friars in the match.  Fiorvanti ended the afternoon with 20 assists, seven kills, five digs, two blocks and a match-high .750 hitting percentage.  Cadres registered a match-high 12 kills to go with five digs and two blocks.

Georgetown hit .172 for the match, while Providence managed just .082. The Friars edged the Hoyas in team blocks, six to 4.5.
