WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown (14-10, 5-8) suffered its worst loss of the season to #22/23 Rutgers (18-5, 11-2), falling 93-52 Saturday afternoon in McDonough Gymnasium. The win increases Rutger's win streak to nine games, while the Hoyas lost their second straight to a ranked opponent.
It took the Hoyas eight and a half minutes to score their first field goal of the game, a three pointer by Sarah Jenkins (Bowie, Md./Riverdale Baptist). The Hoyas did not hit a two-point field goal until the 9:30 mark of the first half. Georgetown found itself down by 16 at the half (20-36), after a long buzzer beating trey to end the half, by Rutgers? Mauri Horton.
At the start of the second half, Mary Lisicky (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) hit a three right off the bat, to give the Hoyas some momentum. However, the momentum quickly swung back towards the Lady Knights, who were led by Cappie Pondexter's 31 points, as Rutgers pulled away early in the second period on their way to 57 points in the final 20 minutes.
Nok Duany (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington North) led all Hoyas with 12 points, while both Mary Lisicky (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) and Rebekkah Brunson (Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon Hill) each tallied 10 points for the contest.
Georgetown plays its third straight top 25 opponent when GU hosts the #1 Connecticut Huskies on Wednesday, February 26. Tip time at McDonough Gymnasium is set for 8:00 p.m.
