Georgetown vs. #1/1 Connecticut
February 26, 2003
8 p.m.
McDonough Gymnasium
Washington, D.C.
The Skinny
The University of Connecticut enters tonight?s game against Georgetown as the unanimous #1 team in the nation and the only undefeated squad in Division I basketball. The Huskies? record setting 65 game win streak has been well publicized throughout this season and Georgetown has the dubious distinction of being the Huskies? 55th victim, allowing UConn to set a new mark in a 72-49 Hoya loss in Hartford.
Despite the Hoyas? recent struggles, there is hope for Georgetown fans packing McDonough Gymnasium tonight. In their last meeting the Hoyas held UConn to just 32.7% shooting and three of UConn?s four closest wins have been against BIG EAST teams, including a five point squeaker against Seton Hall and Rutgers and an eight point win over Boston College.
Rebekkah Brunson and Mary Lisicky had off days in their first encounter this season with the Huskies but continue to lead the team in scoring with 16.4 and 12.9 ppg this season. The Huskies? Diana Taurasi continues to pace the best team in the nation, scoring 16.5 ppg while dishing 4.7 helpers per game.
