WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Georgetown University women?s tennis team defeated the Seton Hall Pirates by a score of 5-2 at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia for their first BIG EAST victory of the 2003 season.

The Hoyas opened the match by taking the doubles point, winning two of three doubles matches.  Lydia Bartell (So., Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines) and Trina Snow (So., Sartell, Minn./Sartell) dropped the first doubles match 8-5 to Seton Hall?s Lorell Zamot and Viviana Figueroa.  Jordan Botjer (Jr., Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades) and Monisha Ghia (So., Bethlehem, Pa.) took a 9-7 win in second doubles, and Liora Gelblum (So., Cupertina, Calif./Monta Vista) and Stephanie Sutton (Jr., Arlington, Texas/Sam Houston State) won 8-1 in third doubles to secure the point.

After scoring the doubles point, the Hoyas scored four more points in the singles matches to take home a quick 5-2 victory in a match where each contest was decided in straight sets.  Gelblum won easily in first singles, sweeping the Pirates Zamot 6-0, 6-0.  Seton Hall scored their only two points in second and third singles.  Pirates Emelie Akerbrant and Viviana Figueroa defeated Bartell and Snow with scores of 6-4, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-0 respectively.  Botjer defeated Lara Spagnuolo (6-1, 6-1) to win the fourth singles.  Ghia took fifth singles over Casey Fry (6-1, 6-0) and Sutton took sixth singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win over SHU?s Erin Burke.
