WASHINGTON, D.C. ? In the final match of the 2002-03 season Georgetown?s men?s tennis team fell at home to West Virginia, 2-5. The Hoyas completed the year with a 2-9 overall record and a 1-5 mark in BIG EAST play.
Opening play was the doubles competition where GU lost all three matches. The #1 tandem of Marc Lohser (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) and Eric Bildman (Brookline, Mass./Roxbury Latin School) and the #3 duo of Chad Mihalick (So., Sammamish, Wash.) and Chris Kindler (Elmo, Minn.) both fell by a 5-8 mark. Dennis Cravedi (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) and Ryan Peisel (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Country Day School) lost in the #2 slot 4-8 giving WVU a 3-0 mark in doubles and the single point advantage entering singles.
In singles Georgetown was able to rip off two victories at the #2 position and #4 spot. Lohser in his final match as a Hoya went out on top at #2 winning a three set battle over WVU?s Tony Epkey, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Bildman?s match at #4 was a little easier as he posted a 7-5, 6-2 victory over J.R. Randall. In the other four matches GU was swept in straight sets as Cravedi lost at #1, 2-6, 2-6, Chris Belelieu (Hinsdale, Ill./Dr. Phillips (Orlando, Fla.)) fell at #3, 1-6, 3-6, Eric Conrad (Gloucester, Mass.) went down at #5 1-6, 5-7 and Peisel succumbed at #6, 5-7, 1-6.
